I'm not sure if the ones I'd recommend are small enough for your needs or how snobby you are about your coffee (I'm pretty snobby!). The Hario Skerton hand-grinder is not automatic, but for a small footprint, fairly quiet buzz, and a little morning work out, you can get a good grind for a fraction of the cost of electric. We have the Baratza Virtuoso, which has been a dream if not a little bit loud. We bought the less expensive Encore for our lake house, and while it's a bit louder and clunkier with the knobs and mechanics, it's held up well and served many a great cup. I have bookmarked for future purchase the Fellow Ode Brew Grinder, which looks smaller and reviews are suggesting it might be the best so far for home use.
I just bought the Krups fast-touch F203 this week! We had been using the magic bullet but we wanted something small, just for coffee grinding. Easy-pour spout, less mess. It is perfect for us!
Not sure about fully mess free due to grinders making dust but I have an Epica that I got from Amazon several years ago. It’s not a fancy burr grinder but it does have a removable grinder section to make cleaning easy if needed. I’d love a burr grinder some day.
