I’ve heard that a feeding mat is just as good for them as physical exercise. They get a ton of mental stimulation from looking for food on a feeding mat so it can wear them out. I found this one when I did a quick search. PAW5 Wooly Snuffle Dog Feeding Mat
Hi Kenna, I'm also a husky owner! We have a Kong and stuff it with treats, then peanut butter then we sometimes freeze it to last longer. We also have a few brain games we can fill with treats but she has outsmarted that and only takes a few seconds to finish, still works to distract from you leaving though. In general though my husky is clingy and doesn't play much while we are gone but these two are our go to when we want a better piece of mind that she has things to do.
Check out the CanineIQ - Interactive Brain Game For Dogs. This keeps one of our pups entertained for a while! He is very food motivated so it's great!!
Kongs only last my Dogs for 1/2 an hour or so... we were given a BullyMake box that included a heavy duty rubber treat dispenser. Our dogs tag teamed it for hours...
Kenna, I have two large Shephard/Lab mix dogs - so big mouths and good chewers. I got them the Planet Orbee earth balls - and the Planet Orbee Kong. I like the Orbee (Kong-type) chew better than the original Kong because they are chewable and softer. I use the Trader Joe biscuits and break them up and put them in the toys. The earth ball is good to put their normal food into for day long feeding. My former dog was a Shephard Lab and also love the Planet Orbee kong type chew.
Ohh! I have an alaskan klee kai, so a miniature husky. His favorite thing is a fake sheep skin he can thrash about. Kongs honestly don't last long, he's too smart and he gets all the treats out within 10 minutes. I would recommend snuffle rugs, and actual puzzle toys. The only thing with puzzle toys is sometimes you have to show the dog how they work otherwise they look at it and decide "meh, too hard".
My family has a Rough Collie and, while she really enjoys her Kong, it also only lasts her about half an hour. She also premature Arthritis so it can be hard on her paws. These might be worth considering.
Hello Kenna, You can train your dog to search for food as a game throughout the house (just make sure you remember where you hid them). I started doing first in the kitchen (e.g. small piece of cheese on the basebord) using the command "search" and then opened it up to other areas. Now when I leave I booby trap the house and check when I come home if she has found all of them. If she hasn't (most of the time she has) I say search and we find them together and give her a lot of pets afterward.
