Sure, you can join a national chain gym, but the Y in West Seattle is really a gem — especially for families. A huge room full of elliptical and stationary bikes and treadmills and stuff, an ample weight area, plenty of quiet space for your own planks or pushups or crunches or whatever, a big gym, a nice pool (or at least that a what I hear — I’ve never been in it.) They’ve got a pretty sizable slate of yoga, Pilates, TRX, zumba, spin classes etc. both at the big main facility and the smaller one just up from the Fauntleroy ferry dock, with some really good instructors. It’s a bargain, too, if you and your family use it a lot. The only downside: parking can be a challenge. It’s not a super-hip cutting-edge club but it’s modern, clean, friendly and super convenient.
I love this place. It's family and community and the locker rooms are warm and smell like cheap shampoo and for some reason that always comforts me. Also, it's clean. Lots of equipment always in good repair, and great classes/instructors.
