Our washing machine has started leaking and doing all sorts of funny things. We're in need of a new one. Can anyone recommend a washing machine that's served them well? Thanks!
Hey Zara. Let's see.. top loaders are the way to go, ideally a high efficiency model (no agitator). Front loaders are loud, break often, and get moldy. The model numbers change super quickly and it's hard to find reviews. I like our LG and Consumer Reports ranks their washing machines at the top.
Agree with Adam Doppelt top loaders are better than front. If you have a front loader it smells unless you constantly clean it and leave the door open all the time to dry it out.
I had good luck with my Fisher Paykel top loader. I have a Whirlpool front loader now and am not as happy with it. Both were purchased at Albert Lee Appliances.
We just bought Speed Queen set last week from Albert Lee. It is a top loader with agitator. Because of the EPA rules, all washers have to conserve water (a good thing). So this particular Speed Queen (model TC5) has an Eco cycle that does that. The other cycles (Permanent press and heavy soil) are more in line with traditional top loader washers in terms of the temperature of the water and the amount of water. I've only used them twice and we like them a lot. But I have not had them long enough to get a really good sense of them.
I have a Meile front loader and dryer and love it. I've had the set for 10 years and have never had a problem. I feel it is easier on my clothes than a top loader. When we moved (twice), we took the set with us. The washer spins the clothes almost dry; so that it does not take much time for a load to dry in the dryer or to hang dry. I do keep the washer door slightly open after use,. I read this was needed for all front loaders to keep mold from growing on the gasket and possibly in the machine itself. So I have always done it. It has never been a problem for me.
Thanks Adam Doppelt , Natasha Willis , and Liz Pearce - that's super helpful. We've got a front loader, so we might need to move to a top loader... and will definitely check out LG's range.
Miele products have served me well too, so this may be a good alternative if we end up deciding to go with a front loader for whatever reason. Thanks Susan O'Neil
We have the LG front loading stackable washer and dryer. It has been a workhorse. We got the model with sanitizing cycle because when we bought it our kids were still little and we wanted that for all the germs, and such, that comes from little ones.
The LGWM3900HWA is fantastic. We use Speed Queen Commercial for our business laundry and nothing beats it -- but I was not a fan of the Speed Queen Residential (I just didn't think it cleaned as well with the new energy guidelines, although you'll probably never have to have it repaired -- they just last and last). The LG is amazing!
We absolutely love our Samsung Aquajet top loader we have the dryer as well. It’s been almost 3 years and no problems. Cleans well and easy to use even the kids can do their own laundry. The were on the affordable side but not cheap.
Samsung 6.0 ! I have this product and when I say a washer machine is an investment trust me lol ... I love mine, its really easy to use and last a long time.. Ive had this one for about 4 years now :)
