Any recommendations for a person or company that could install shelving for books? We envision a single high shelf near our ceiling running across 1-3 walls. Who do we even look for to do something like this?
These are called "builtins" and they make the house look great. JAS put in a bunch for us when we did our remodel. You need a carpenter. Hard to hire one right now, though.
California Closets. True story. I bought my condo in Queen Anne almost nine years ago. It has California closets in almost every room. They run smoothly and really are built-in high quality finishes and mechanisms.
Two years after I bought my place, one of the built-in drawers in my walk-in became stuck and wouldn't open. I called the local showroom in Bellevue. I explained that the drawer had broken and I needed it repaired. The woman I spoke with said "It's not broken but I'll send someone out." Odd but ok...
The tech arrived, I showed him the room. 15 minutes later, he came out. "No problems. It's fine." I asked him what I owed him. "Our products don't break. There's no reason to charge you." He smiled and left. Again odd, but I have found with certain product (Briggs & Riley, Herman Miller) they make it their problem and not yours. Worth the investment.
