Dryer sheets vs fabric softener

Looking for recs on favorite dryer sheets and/or fabric softeners. Do you use one or the other? Both? Neither?

I use wool dryer balls, you can add essential oils if you're looking to add fragrance. It's a nice alternative to the chemically fragrant dryer sheets.

I use these:
Mrs. Meyers Clean Day dryer sheets are not only toxin-free, but cute as a button in adorable mid-century-style packaging. The four scents – Lemon Verbena, Lavender, Geranium & Basil – are each fresh, unique and, most importantly, all-natural.
But Erin's wool dryer balls are way better for the earth so I will switch to those: )

I use the wool dryer balls as well. They work great and last for a long time.

3rd plug for the wood dryer balls. You can get a really inexpensive set of 4 at Trader Joes.

I switched from dryer sheets to the wool dryer balls too, specifically Friendsheep Cozy Grey Eco Dryer Balls. They make a soft thumping noise as the dryer runs and my socks stick to my microfiber cleaning cloths but other than that, I don't see any difference from dryer sheets so I'm putting them in the win column.
