Favorite semi-permanent, non-processing dye

I'm usually an Arctic Fox gal, personally, but ive been out of the hair color game a couple years and am sure there has to be something better. I've tried manic panic (not a fan of the quick wash out), and Good Dye Young (not a fan of the higher price point with no obvious added benefit for the cost hike). Usually I heat-set my Arctic fox with a bonnet dryer, and leave on a super long time so it CANNOT be a chemical processing semi-permanent like Ion (effing garbage imo, unless you've got fine, untextured hair). I was a bit of a hair nerd back in the day, so I don't mind step-intensive processes! As little chemicals as possible would be ideal since my son LOVES to play with my hair. Thanks friends!

I’ve tried a lot of the non processing semi permanent dyes and I keep coming back to Arctic Fox. Manic Panic washes out too soon, Ion hardly leaves any dye on the hair (I did my daughters hair in black and it literally all washed out, I was so peeved). I think AF is the best, although I am curious about Overtone but haven’t tried it yet since I still have plenty of AF at home!

I've been using Splat (splathaircolor.com/products...) for over a decade. Their green color lasts forever, truly - I only re-dye when my roots get too long. Thanks to my light brown/dirty blonde natural color, I can skip the bleach and just use the dye (I give the bleach away). The Splat dye doesn't smell bad and staining stays under control with a few precautions. After dyeing, makeup removal wipes are enough to get off any stray dye on your skin if you do that right away. I leave it on, head wrapped in saran wrap and wearing a knit hat, for at least a few hours before rinsing. Here you can see how it looks after about a week, and how it looks after maybe 8 weeks.
