Professional camera for beginners

Any recommendations for good and affordable cameras for beginners? I'm planning to start learning photography this summer. I'm going to focus on pictures of nature, birds, and maybe products.

Are you thinking about a film or digital camera? If you want affordable but don't feel the need for the latest and greatest check out the used inventory at your local camera store.

Asking photographers to recommend their favorite brands is like asking a sports fan about their favorite team. All of the major brands have good tech and features. I tend to recommend Sony and Fujifilm most of all. For someone just starting out Fujifilm would be my choice.

Hi Karline! I am a photographer, here is what I would suggest. I see you're in Boston, so I imagine you've got some really great camera shops there. Find someone there to show you around. You can try out both the DSLR and the mirrorless cameras. You'll be able to get a feel for what systems you like best. Each system is a little different and most people prefer one over the others.
All the major camera brands have great consumer cameras that are on the less expensive side. When I started I had a Canon Rebel (a great starter camera) and a "nifty fifty" lens which is a 50mm 1.8 lens. It is a really inexpensive lens that takes great photos. I used that lens for several years.
Most places also sell used equipment that is in great shape, and is less expensive. Some great online camera shops are B & H and Adorama. A quick search of Boston camera shops shows Hunt's camera might be a good place to start? Check it out. Lastly, there are a ton of great classes out there for you when you're beginning. Creative Live has loads of inexpensive ones that are good and Clickin Moms is a great community to join to start to learn and to get to know other fellow photographers in your area and across the world to learn together. Mostly, have fun! Taking photos is my most favorite thing in the whole world, so much so, I made a job of it!

Karissa Psathas recommended this one...Sony a6400 Mirrorless Digital Camera. She wrote a great guide on creating content and she listed this camera as a great first step beyond using our iphone. Check out her article in the Guides section here...freshchalk.com/d/content-cr...
