Small Portable Room Air Conditioner

HI friends, I am looking for recommendations regarding portable small room AC's. Do they work? Have you used? What brand? I've read the pros and cons. Any thoughts or suggestions wil help. I'm in humid Wisconsin. Thx!

Yes they definitely work! You just need a nearby compatible window, or even a hole in the wall. Can't go wrong with the one that sell at costco. You can always return it if things go badly :)

Thanks, Adam. I do have a window unit--smiles--I was referring to the little ones that you can hand carry from room to room. Like "Breeze Maxx" or some such. They work by adding water? Just wonder if they really work! Thanks again. Cindy

Cindy Happel I tried one of these in a room a couple of years ago. I now just use it as a fan. They don't work. If you want true cold air, you'll need one that has somewhere to vent out the hot air. Hope that helps and saved you some money!

Sara--thank you. That's exactly what I wondered. Guess I'll pass and stick to my window AC. Ciao, Ciao

Agreed, the water ones hardly work, maybe 3 degrees better, and the more humid the environment the less effective they are.

A good fan, however can get you 5+ degrees which is actually refreshing. I've had very good experience with Lasko tower fans in both desktop and room size. (Honeywell and Dyson fans also get good reviews, but haven't tried them.)

To get the best bang for your buck, consider if you need any additional features like a HEPA filter for dust or allergies, remote, timer for sleeping, or heating so you can use it in those chilly Wisconsin winters instead of storing it away. Best wishes!

These responses are all so helpful. And the additional HEPA filter--perfect. Thanks.
