In the first months of the pandemic, my 8-year-old daughter got lonely. We needed a pet! We were looking to adopt one that was easy to keep, that didn’t require much space, long walks or cleaning. That’s how we decided to set up our first aquarium. This is a guide for those looking to get into this beautiful, fun and relaxing hobby.
... moreThis aquarium is a good size and holds up to five fish (one good rule of thumb is one fish per gallon). It’s made of glass and it doesn’t take much space, plus it looks stylish. The kit includes a filtration system and different lights - including a black light that makes the aquarium glow-in- the- dark.
Gravel is important because it helps maintain a healthy aquarium. We chose this black gravel to help pop-up our glow fish.
Our tropical fish require regulated water temperature. We love this heater because you just plug it and forget about it. It regulates water temperature automatically.
Decorating the aquarium is part of the fun! My daughter has a selection of different figurines and other decorations for the fish tank; every time we clean it, she changes them. Decorations are good for fish too; it gives them a place to hide and rest.
This liquid makes tap water safe for fish by eliminating chlorine and heavy metals. We use it always when changing or adding water to our tank, Depending on the season, we change the water once or twice a month.
This liquid has live bacteria that jump-starts the creation of a healthy environment for your fish. You’ll use it when you first set up your brand-new aquarium.
My daughter went crazy for a Betta Glowfish that she saw in the pet store. It is so beautiful! If you’re looking to get a Betta, just keep in mind they don’t like having other bettas around, but they can cohabit with other tropical species. Our little one gets along with our three danios.
We order these on the Glowfish website and were shipped directly to our house, overnight in a cooler. These fish are very healthy and pretty to look at day or night because their colors are so bright! They get along very well with our Betta.
Remember: DON’T BUY YOUR FISH UNTIL YOUR AQUARIUM IS SET UP AND THE WATER HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS.
