Dog harness

We are looking for a good dog harness to walk our new and enthusiastic 9 month old lab/border collie mix. We initially got a pretty standard one where the leash clips to the back from Lupine Pet. We had it recommended to us from a trainer to try the Wonder Walker. Since the leash clips to the chest on that one, it is supposed to discourage pulling. Today however, our very clever dog managed to get out of his harness in his excitement to go leet a German shepherd we were trying to pass. We are doing more training to get him to be a better listener, but would love a great harness to support that training!

I love the front-clip harness! We got this one: Mighty Paw Padded Sports Harness- and the concept has been amazing. The top handle is already ripping a little so that's not great. However we do have an 80 lb dog and I've been lifting him up via the handle, so...maybe my own fault. I don't think the harness is wriggle-out-able, so if your dog is not as heavy and you don't plan to manhandle him as much, it might be a good choice.

Stephanie, a trainer showed us this when our pups were 6 months old and it was a game changer. The "Gentle Lead" looks like a muzzle but it's not, it's a harness device that goes over the head and snout. All the harnesses we bought seemed to give them even more leverage to pull. We have two Shephard/lab mix dogs who are big and strong. I've talked with dozens of others who said the gentle lead was the only thing to keep their dogs from pulling.

Front clip all the way! Wonderwalker is the thing that transformed Mayzie's (our 65lb basset hound) walking habits. I got ours at Next to Nature in Tacoma, a great local pet store that focuses on natural products for pets.

I definitely suggest going into the store because they will help fit it to your dog (all COVID protocols are strictly observed) or if you get it home and need to exchange for a size up or down, they are accommodating of that as well. Next to Nature is the best!

Gentle Leader is what we use for our dogs, even the 100 lbs does well on it.

This harness by TrueLove works well for my Frenchie. It's adjustable, has clips front and back, and it doesn't have a strap across the shoulders which makes it more comfortable for him.

Thanks everyone, for the great recommendations! I am excited to try some of them out and see what is the most effective for my rascally guy!
