How do you protect yourself against ticks when you are hiking?

I'm planning to go hiking with friends over the weekend, but I'm concerned about ticks. How do you protect yourself against ticks when you are hiking? Do you apply any products to your clothes/hair/body?

We use the Repel Sportman wipes and we have never had a problem. I do always cover my legs though and try to stay on the trail to avoid walking through tall brush. Good luck, it's the season to be cautious.

I use Cutter Backwoods Insect Repellent. Put it over your clothes and shoes as well.

Products with deet are the only thing that really works. I'm from NY and the ticks are terrible out there. Unfortunately, I don't love using these products even though they are deemed safe for human use, so I try and limit their use to when I'm going into high grass or deep woods areas.

I have been researching this recently because we are going to our place in Illinois for two weeks and I am terrified of ticks, almost like a phobia. Aside from traditional products, it is suggested to tie your hair up, wear light colored clothes, and tuck your pants into your socks.
