Advice on bathroom/shower reno

We've nearly completed our bathroom reno but still need to do the shower. We will need a new door (probably custom since I'm hoping we can make a steam shower, a new pan, surround and I'd like tile. We will also need to move the showerhead itself so some (hopefully) minor plumbing. Is this a job for a GC? Or is this something a plumber could do? Hoping to not have to hire a bunch of different folks if possible. Is there one person out there who could handle the whole job without having to sell an organ?

I would look for someone that specializes in showers/bathrooms. You’ll need a tile person AND a plumber for sure. They aren’t the same skill set. You can probably coordinate them yourself. But, if you need to demolish anything, I would say hire a GC and let them do the coordinating. Creating a pan and tiling a shower is not cheap. Also the fixtures themselves are not cheap. You want to avoid the cheap stuff you find on Amazon because if something fails and you need a part, you won’t be able to find it (advice we got from our plumber after he had to fix a lot of flipped homes where the flipper used the cheap stuff).

Ryan Bruss I was afraid of that but really knew that was probably the right answer. Do you have any GC's you'd recommend for this type of project? We've done every other thing in this house ourself so don't have a bench to pull from.

We used Fairwood Construction for a bunch of stuff last year including our bathroom. He’s out of Kirkland. The bathroom came out really nice. I’d share a picture if I could.

You mentioned that you're almost done with the bathroom, does that mean that you did the rest of the work DIY or with another contractor? Sounds like you still need to demo the existing shower? If you just want to move the showerhead and leave the other plumbing, you might consider DIY for the demo and moving the showerhead, and then farm out the shower pan and tile work. Make sure to take the drain into account as well when you plan out your shower pan. Master Wholesale down in SoDo is a great place to look at some shower pan options and it's a hotspot for tile contractors.

Wrt the shower door, I've used Northwest Shower Door with good results but you should know that they need you to be done with tile before they can confirm the measurements and it usually takes three weeks to get a custom glass door. You might save some money if you have a standard size opening and can get an off the shelf door product from HomeDepot et al but if so make sure that the glass is 3/8" thick.
