OK, friends. Does anyone have a gastroenterologist they love? I'm happy with my current gastro (Dr. Drennan) but he's semi-retired now. I'm looking for a second opinion on my long term GERD plans, especially as I spend less time with Dr. Drennan. Happy to chat about GERD/reflux/EoE/globus/hiatal hernia/omeprazole in this thread if people are interested. Hard to believe I've had symptoms for fifteen years now... I still blame the Garlic Gulch pizza I ate at Ethan's house while watching Old Boy.
I haven't been to him in a few years- but I recommend Dr. Bruce Tung. I saw him for EoE and I was struck by how much time he spent discussing my symptoms and course of treatment. He took the time to listen and ask questions. He's funny too. I mentioned that sometimes when I eat carrots, they get stuck in my throat. He looked at me for a moment, and said, "Yeah, me too. Don't eat carrots". I smiled and moved on because I think he was kidding (maybe?) but it's possible that he was being serious. I still eat carrots - cautiously.
Dr. Richard Kozarek at Virginia Mason. He's fabulous, also works at The Cleveland Clinic, has been in practice a long time, and was the one person who finally was able to diagnose my ex-husband after three years of doctors and procedures and testing by other docs. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Had my appointment with Dr. Tung this morning. He listened patiently to my history and poorly informed theories about GERD. I liked him and I think I found my new gastro. Another scope coming up soon. Thanks guys!
