Have you rented a car with Turo?

Turo is a newish "air bnb" type service but for cars. I am going out of town soon and I thought I would ask for insight on the service because my rental car experience with bigger companies hasn't been great. Has anyone used this service or know someone who has? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Iā€™m eager to hear about this, too ā€” thank you for asking the question, Natasha!

My aunt just got back from jeep week in PCB. She got a Jeep from Turo and had a wonderful experience. She said she only sees herself renting from turo here on out.

If you use it look into what happens if there is a wreck, my roommate was in an accident and a person using a turo car hit her :/

I just rented one last one through them. It was a very easy process

We have rented twice through Turo and had great experiences. A friend rented through Turo and totaled the car (šŸ˜¬), but the insurance process was smooth and they said they would do it again (not sure about the car owner!). The pros of it are: flexibility (with changes in plans), fun cars, lower prices (sometimes), and a human you can easily text with. Plus, it's a local car with local plates that probably doesn't scream rental (if break-ins targeted at tourists are a concern). The cons are: a little more coordination at the airport, car might not be in pristine shape, the human you work with might not be as customer-service oriented. But for us, we haven't experienced any negatives that would deter us in the future yet.

I've rented from Turo plenty of times for my trips and have almost always had a great experience. I just treat it like airbnb and look at the reviews and terms. I would opt to get the insurance provided because travel credit card benefits don't apply to turo so you'll be stuck paying out of pocket if something happens. I'm not a fan of the ones who make you wash the car before you return because I feel like that should be the job of the owner just like airbnb, but there are plenty of who don't require it.

I'm glad you made this question. I have been thinking about renting through Turo instead of Zipcar. Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts. So helpful!
