I've just started taking boxing lessons at Cappy's based on all the great recommendations here. It's a fun workout, and the staff and coaches are very friendly and supportive. Be prepared for partner work. If you want to learn a new skill and get out of your comfort zone (but not too far), this is a great option. I can't tell if I'm going to get really hooked yet, but so far so good! Thanks Jennifer OlsonKenji SazanamiTonya PeckMasako Long

Would you buy and bring your own gloves if you were trying this for the firs time? I heard they were super pungent :)

I look at it as they will strengthen your immune system. :) If anything, I'd buy hand wraps before you go or when you get there (they sell them for cheap and help you wrap your hands). Once your hands are wrapped, it's not so bad putting them in used gloves. Also, take the Boxing 101 intro class. It's free and fun!
A wonderful combination of intensity and fun - the best and most enjoyable workout I've had. Can't find a better place to go for regular workouts than Cappy's, and really great people all around between coaches and participants. Not intimidating to start, and great rewards for sticking with it!
