Google Assistant vs Alexa, has anyone used both?

I'm finally getting around to setting up the smart home devices at my new house and now have as many Google Home devices as Alexa devices (they love giving these things away for free and it seems like every new piece of tech I get is one or the other). I'm curious if anyone has used both and has a preference. I used Alexa at my old house. While it was good at turning lights on and off, it was terrible at answering simple questions.

I’ve used alexa from the beginning. I live by it, it allows me to make announcements throughout my house. Is a personal assistant when I’m working from home. I have not used google but as an echo dot and echo show owner I love it.

I use Alexa for my lights and playing music. But I am an android user so google is also used frequently for my phone, asking random questions, etc.

I have 5 Alexas and 3 Google Assistants. They are all unplugged an in a drawer. We found them to be more annoying than helpful.

I have both. I definitely like Alexa more. It's less annoying and more helpful. For example, when I say "OK Google, turn off living room lamp." Google assistant would say : "Sure, turning living room lamp off." But for Alexa, when I say the same request, she would say "Ok", then the light is off. Also, Google sometimes promotes their new features like bed time feature, so they would say some irrelevant things to remind you their new features, which is so annoying!

I am 100% biased, but for a Smart Home use-case (controlling lights, thermostats, security systems, streaming camera feeds) Alexa is considered to be ahead by most in the industry. Check out Alexa Guard as well: amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=1...

Thanks everyone for the input!! I’m going to setup both and see which one I end up using more.
